HRC Grape Breeding Project Fall Tour

Featuring a free tour of the HRC research vineyards, tips on growing and trellising techniques for UMN grapes, and an opportunity to see and taste fruit from many wine and table grape cultivars.

 

Wine Analysis Short Course

This day-long wine lab shortcourse focuses on the analyses necessary for quality wine production. This year the lecture material will be available online for home viewing. The on-site lab day will focus on laboratory methods only. Intended for commercial winemakers and those planning on entering the wine industry, this course will include lectures and hands-on laboratory work.  Topics include:

  • Setting up a winery laboratory
  • Sampling techniques
  • Carbonic maceration
  • Soluble solids
  • Acidity and pH
  • Titration, titratable acidity, volatile acidity
  • Sulfur dioxide
  • Alcohol analysis
  • De-acidification and acid management
  • Dissolved oxygen and redox potential
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Wine instabilities, fining agents, filtration
  • Closures

Time:  Lectures available online beginning Thursday June 26, 2008

Laboratory course to be held on Friday July 25, 2008 and Wednesday July 30, 2008.

Limit: 16 people per session

Time: 9:00 to 3:30

Registration fee:  $150; includes coffee, lunch, and proceedings
